Fountain University, Osogbo, on April 23, 2026, hosted its 8th Inaugural Lecture at the university auditorium, where Professor Kazeem Olajide Olaniyan delivered a lecture titled “The Just, Justice and the Judicial: A Jurisprudential Journey in the Justicial Jungle.” The event attracted members of the university community, including staff, students, and invited guests.

In his lecture, Professor Olaniyan examined the relationship between the ideals of justice and the realities of judicial practice. He explained the distinction between “the just” as a moral ideal, “justice” as a guiding principle, and “the judicial” as the institutional framework responsible for interpreting and enforcing the law. He noted that while justice is often perceived as absolute, its application within legal systems is influenced by human judgment, institutional structures, and societal conditions.

Describing the legal system as a “justicial jungle,” he highlighted the complexities and challenges involved in the administration of justice. He pointed out that legal outcomes do not always reflect true fairness due to various structural and procedural limitations, emphasizing the need for a system that prioritizes equity alongside legality. He further stressed the importance of ethical responsibility among legal practitioners and the need for a more human-centered approach to the dispensation of justice.

The lecture also underscored the role of the judiciary in shaping society and sustaining order, as well as the responsibility of scholars and students to engage critically with legal principles beyond theoretical understanding. The audience remained attentive throughout, reflecting the depth and relevance of the discourse.

The inaugural lecture reinforced Fountain University’s commitment to academic excellence and provided a platform for meaningful engagement on issues of law, justice, and society.
