The Fountain University Students’ Representative Congress (FUSRC) has approved the nomination of six members into the Students’ Judicial Council (SJC), alongside the appointment of a Chairman for the association’s Efficiency Committee.
The nominations were forwarded to the Congress by the President of the Law Students Society (LSS) for legislative approval.
Those confirmed into the Students’ Judicial Council include former LSS Vice President, Justice Abubakar Maimunah Wuraola (500 level), Justice Mobolaji Ogunleye (500 level), Justice Bello Wasilat Ayinke (500 level), Justice Babalola Badiu Babakorede (400 level), Justice Adelu Sekinah Mideh (400 level), and Justice Alausa Muhseen Ayomide (300 level).
The Congress also approved the appointment of Odeyemi Mubarak Adewunmi, a 400-level Public Health student, as Chairman of the Efficiency Committee.
The Efficiency Committee is responsible for monitoring the performance and accountability of student leaders within the association. The appointment was forwarded by the SCEC President for legislative approval.
The Students’ Judicial Council serves as the judicial arm of the association, responsible for interpreting the constitution and handling student-related disputes.
Speaking to the spokesperson of the FUSRC, Honourable Ifeoluwa Jones, he emphasized the urgency of constituting the judicial body following the adoption of a new constitution.
“The constitution has to be interpreted for the students, so it was important to approve the nominees sent by the LSS President,” he said. “The decision was unanimously agreed upon by members of the House, and I am confident the approved justices will carry out their duties diligently.”
One of the newly approved members, Justice Abubakar Maimunah Wuraola, also expressed readiness to serve.
She noted that her experience in leadership and legal activities would guide her role, adding that she is committed to fairness and integrity in carrying out her responsibilities as a member of the council.
The development follows the recent adoption of the Fountain University Students Association (FUSA) constitution earlier in April, which provides for the establishment of a functional judicial council. The council is expected to become fully operative upon the swearing-in of the approved members.
