Fountain University’s informal weekend kickabouts are officially over. What was once the Fountain Premier League has returned as the Fountain University Student Association (FUSA) League. It is now a more structured and competitive tournament built to reward stamina, discipline and consistent performance across the semester.
Six teams will compete in the league, each registering at least 15 players along with coaching and support staff. The format is a full home and away schedule, with every team facing the others twice for a total of 30 matches. Organizers report that the season will begin three to four weeks after resumption and continue through the December break.
A new Football Association (FA), made up of sport directors, team captains and appointed officials, will govern the competition and enforce a stricter code of conduct. To discourage misconduct, the FA has introduced fines and bans. Yellow cards will attract fines, red cards carry automatic suspensions and violent or unnecessary disputes on or off the pitch will incur heavier penalties. The message is clear: passion is welcome, disorder is not.
Finances are also evolving. Each team must pay a registration fee of ₦80,000, an increase from ₦60,000 last season. The champions’ prize has been raised to ₦150,000, up from ₦100,000. For the first time since the league’s revival, cash prizes will also be awarded to the first and second runners-up instead of rewarding only the winners.
The league’s new structure and disciplinary standards are designed to elevate campus football, turning scattered talent into sustained performance and finally giving the sport the organization it has long needed. Teams that meet the squad requirements and wish to participate can register at the FUSA Secretariat or through the league’s official student social platforms. The Secretariat will also provide information on fixtures, the official charter and prize details for runners-up.
